SINOPSIS

First Love, Many Times is an interdisciplinary book that examines the phenomenon of first love from the perspectives of psycholinguistics, interpersonal communication, and existential philosophy. This book starts from a simple but profound question: Does first love really only happen once in a lifetime, or can it be repeated in different forms throughout a person’s life journey?

Through empirical research, cross-age interviews, and analysis of more than 150 international scientific articles, the author puts forward the idea that first love is not an emotional event that ends in the past. Instead, it is a psychological experience that is repeated every time a person learns to love in a new way, with feelings that develop along with personal growth and life context.

This book consists of twelve chapters that explore first love from various scientific and cultural perspectives. Readers will be invited to understand how language shapes the experience of love through metaphors, symbols, and communication; how memories work in the brain to create feelings of loss and nostalgia; and how popular culture, films, music, and social media create collective narratives about first love in various traditions around the world.

In addition to discussing theoretical aspects, this book also contains dozens of real stories that describe first love in various stages of life, adolescence, adulthood, and old age, and how each stage gives rise to new meanings of love, loss, and the courage to love again. In the final section, this book offers a philosophical synthesis of first love as an existential reflection: a path for humans to understand themselves, time, and the meaning of existence.

Based on research conducted under the 2025 Early Career Faculty Research Program (PDP) framework, this work serves not only as academic literature but also as a humanistic reflection on the emotional dynamics that shape humanity. With a scientific approach presented in communicative language, this book bridges the gap between the scientific world and personal experience, between data and feelings, inspiring readers to reinterpret the meaning of first love in their own lives.
